11:27 am ....Why are my billing minions peons ladies cosseting an upset high school girl? This is the whole nine yards - cocoa, cookies, chair, and cooing maternal types.
I'm not sure whether it's more disturbing that this is new to me or that my department has been identified by the younger staff as the place to go if you want to run to mommy.
I was going to send a memo up to you, Lisa, but mentioning the idea brought the full force of glares in my direction.

02:32 pm I have been instructed to announce that Meredith and the other ladies of my department are planning another potluck, for next Friday. Their reason is that the new batch of hourly employees and in fact all newcomers to PP-TH employment are in fact 'too thin'. This should fill all right-minded people with either fear or expectation.
Lisa, I hate to be a bother, but do you have a decision on that proposal I forwarded? It's not particularly time-specific, but I do need an answer before going ahead with the project before anyone takes it into their heads to go over mine.
To the rest: pager and cellphone are on, and I am in my office. If I'm needed for anything, that's how to reach me.

06:56 pm I'm not precisely sure why I went to that conference, but I suppose it was edifying. My apologies for being scarce for the social aspects... I'm not terribly social.
I pause for the inevitable gasps of shock and disbelief.
Amazingly, there are no outstanding crises requiring my attention, so I have just the usual litany of meetings, conference calls, and tiny cubicle dramas to attend to - hence why my office was vacant yesterday. If anyone has anything noteworthy or interesting, please consider me interested and/or willing to assist.
Ah, one exception.

02:38 pm - Memo to Dr. Leicester - Re: Amanda Morris (cc'd to Drs. Cuddy and Pearce) Dr. Leicester -
I spoke to a Ms. Casey Lara at DSHS at length about your young patient this morning; normally, of course, the turnaround on DSHS claims is up to 90 days, but as that time frame is frankly unacceptable for this situation we came to an understanding over the phone. Health Services will cover a portion of the cost of the hearing aid provided the hospital write off the rest as per usual practice with DSHS claims. I've notated the approval in Amanda's file and added some faxed documentation of the agreement reached with Ms. Lara for future hospital reference and general edification.
Let me know if you run across any other difficulties!

11:40 am All is not well, Meredith informs me, in the state of Denmark. I'm fairly that was meant as a reference to Shakespeare rather than a statement on the actual Denmark, which I think continues along as quietly and boringly as it usually does.
I actually agree with her in that light... it's far too quiet around here. What happened to the periodic outbreaks of yelling?
This is mostly just a message stating that my office door is as open as Lisa's... I haven't got the pull she does, but I'm quite willing to listen or do what I can if there are troubles wandering around getting in the way of things. Current Mood: perplexed

07:14 am Note to self: Consider finding a way to repeal casual Fridays as long as there are undergraduates working as hourly employees. There really is demarcation between 'casual' and 'now you're pushing it.'
That said, I'm looking for excuses to leave my department in the capable hands of Meredith today, in between meetings. Anyone need a hand? Current Mood: calm

09:54 am - Back It's Wednesday, and I'm back to normal work. Rah.
I have cell and pager on, and if you can wrest me from the clutches of Meredith I also have the time, since we're still subbing out my various meetings today and tomorrow to allow some catch up time.
Has there been any change or progress made on Lisa's condition? So if there's anything needed from me, I should be around. Current Mood: tired

Please tell me no one's firebombed PPTH yet.

Perhaps fortunately, I'll be out for the rest of the week. To Minnesota, but beggars can't be choosers. Current Mood: annoyed

07:07 am - Monday For any concerned, sleep did indeed knit the raveled sleeve of care. Or words to that effect, at any rate.
Meredith informs me that 'all is not well in the state of Denmark,' which is a shame, really, because the entire place was getting along quite well up to now. I suspect I'll also have to deal with departmental status reports in the form of Shakespearian quotes for the rest of the day.
The upshot of this is that I really will be in my office for the greater part of the day, since I've compelled a few underlings to attend my Monday meetings for me so that I can catch up and stamp out the brushfires.

09:09 am - The previously mentioned Oh, god, it's ethnic. My department is now a hotbed of culinary nationalism.
In no sane world should lefsa share the same table as pad thai. No. Sane. World.

06:04 am - A momentous occasion As of yesterday, billing is current to the month. This is, of course, assuming we ignore DSHS, which follows its own rules anyway. That said, the last day for a number of the hourly employees in Billing will be Friday. Knowing my department, there will be a potluck, so I choose to make the invitation now.
Come by on Friday and steal food. The more that's eaten, the less there is to be cleaned up.
In the spirit of announcing things ahead of time, I will be out of the office for three days in May, specifically the 17th through the 19th. I will not be checking email or answering the phone during that time, so any billing matters may be addressed to Meredith, who as my lead office assistant will be managing matters in my absence.
Lisa, we do need to have that meeting. When is convenient for you?

March 27th, 2005
04:38 pm Hah. I win.
Instead of using those wretched half-slips of paper to input and report lab test billing, we've finally gotten a form up and running on the hospital's intranet. It should manage order submission as well as delivering the results and getting the information to Billing so we can actually get paid for the work. Also, I'll be able to track what goes where, which will make Compliance work much less insane.
I estimate an approximate gain of anywhere from two to six days on the back end; not only will test requests be electronic and not prone to misinterpretation due to bad handwriting, there will be a marked decrease in errors due to miskeying.

08:05 am - Agenda! Dr. Pearce, Julie, thank you for your assistance yesterday. I've gotten the numbers clarified and updated, and Pediatrics is officially off the hook for budget estimates until next year. At least, provided word doesn't come down next quarter demanding another revision.
Dr. Wilson, Dr. House, you two are next. Separately, of course. The process should be relatively painless.
Dr. Dennington, I do recall that we have an appointment, never fear.
I believe that's everything... as always, I'm reachable by cell, pager, and email if it's not.

March 22nd, 2005
06:18 pm My god, I don't believe I was in my office even once today. There should be rules against having that many meetings in one day. Tomorrow's not looking much better, as I have a conference call in the morning and then the safety committee in the afternoon. As always, of course, I will be reachable by pager, email, and cell.
Thank you, Department Heads, for getting your revised budget projections in to Dr. Cuddy in a timely manner... those of you who did so. I'm sure she appreciates it, particularly since she won't, apparently, be the one to go through the stacks and turn it into a tidy spreadsheet to be presented to the board. Those of you who have not turned in the revisions, expect merciless nagging. You have been warned.
I am informed that clinic rotations for specialists for the next month has been decided and entered into the schedule. By and large the schedules have not changed, but if changes have been made that need verifying or changes need to be made, by all means send me an email or grab me in passing. I'll be around. Current Mood: stressed
